Khaptad National Park

Khaptad National Park is a protected area. It was establish in 1984.  It was open in the advice of region’s holy man Khaptad baba. The Khaptad baba ashram is religious site of Lord Shiva. People come to worship Shiva in full moon of July every year. It is located near headquarter of park. It is famous over there. There are huge number of Flora and Fauna. A vegetation of forest, gives more special atmosphere to this region. Khaptad national park has many places; Saileshori, Ashram of Khaptad Baba, Ramroshan, Badimallika. Khaptad offers you a beautiful variety of landscapes, with rolling green hills, moorlands, steep slopes and streams.

Location of Khaptad National Park

Khaptad National Park lies in the Heart of Far Western Nepal. It is in the Seti Zone. This National park is surrounded by Doti, Bajura, Bajhang and Accham districts. It covers an area of 225 square km. It ranges over from 3000m above. The gateway to Khaptad is Silgarhi Bazaar in Doti district, from where the park headquarters is 50 km

Flora and Fauna

There are 224 species of medicinal herbs, 567 species of flowering plants, 270 species of birds; bulbuls, cuckoos and eagles. It is fairly reach for wild animals. This national park is famous for bird watching. There are 23 species of mammals, 23 species of amphibians and reptiles. The special symbolic of Park are Leopard, Himalayan black bear, wild dog, musk deer, etc. 567 species of flora have been recorded in the protected area, including rhododendron forests, oak and pine forests. From the park you can see the Api and Saipal Himalayan ranges.Bird species include the beautiful Impeyan pheasant (danphe; Nepal’s national bird), Peregrin falcon, the white rumped vulture ,etc.

Khaptad Park is also rich in its variety of wild animals, common ones being barking deer, wild dog, wild boar, ghoral, Himalayan black bear, yellow-throated marten, rhesus monkey and langur monkey.

Climate

The climate of Khaptad region is cool and dry in summer, cool and wet in winter.  In summer the temperatures range from 0 to 20-degree Celsius, while in winter the temperature can fall bellow 20 degrees.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Khaptad National park is during autumn, Spring, October to November And March to May. During autumn various festivals are held. during autumn and spring climate gets mild.

How to Reach Khaptad National Park?

We can visit there by any source of transportation; Air or Road transportation. Daily flight basis are provided by airlines, Bus, jeep are also available if you prefer road transportation from Kathmandu. The distance between Kathmandu and Khaptad national park is 448km. You also can prefer Train, Night bus,etc. It takes 14 hr 11 min to drive from Kathmandu to khaptad national park.
