Shivapuri hiking is easy hike to the famous Shivapuri hill near by Kathmandu valley. It is named after the great mediator, Sage Shivapuri Baba. The hiking of one day falls in the Shivapuri National Park was established as a Watershed and Wildlife Reserve in 1976 A.D. and declared as the National Park in 2003 A.D. It offers the nearest retreat away from the hubbub of city life. Shivapuri hill hiking takes you just 25 km. far from the city. We drive up to Budhanilkantha, which is 8 km north of Kathmandu from where we begin our hiking. There is famous reclining Vishnu in the pond, made up of a single stone from the Lichhavi period.

Shivapuri hill is a famous hill to the northern side of Kathmandu. Shivapuri is the source of Bagmati river. Shivapuri hiking is a single day hiking from Kathmandu valley. It is named after the great mediator, Sage Shivapuri Baba.

Shivapuri National Park protects the hill which was established as a Watershed and Wildlife Reserve in 1976 A.D. and declared as the National Park in 2003 A.D. It offers the nearest retreat away from the hubbub of city life. Shivapuri hill hiking takes you just 25 km. far from the city. Like the Nagarjun hill hiking, Shivapuri Hiking offers great valley view, meditative atmosphere, fresh air, peace and tranquility in mind. It is one of the best places for researching different species of butterflies and birds. The Shivapuri National Park occupied 144 sq km spreading to Kathmandu, Nuwakot, and Sindhupalchowk but later Nagarjun forest with 15 sq. km has been added and the total area is 159 sq km. Hiking begins from 1,350 m to 2,732m in height. It can be taken as a spiritual tour as well because, the famous origin of holy Bagmati River has the origination called Baghdwar.

Shivapuri Hill Hiking route consists of a variety of natural forest types including oak, rhododendron, pine etc. One can get a chance to encounter wild mammals during hike to Shivapuri Hill, in the Shivapuri National Park, some of them are clouded leopard, spotted leopard, leopard cat, barking dear, wild boar, two types of monkeys like common langur and common monkey, and red panda. Hiking to different routes from Shivapuri like Panimuhan to Sikre (12 km), Nagigumba to Chisapani(18 km), Nagigumba to Shivapuri peak (6 km), Kakani to Shivapuri, Jhule to Shivapuri (12 km ), and Nagi Gumba to Sundarijal can be done. Trekking routes to Nagarkot, Goshaikunda, Helambu and Langtang National Park also pass through the park.
