Bhaktapur Durbar Square Nepal

Bhaktapur durbar square is the royal palace of the old Bhaktapur kingdom. Now it lies in town called Bhaktapur. It is 13 km far from Kathmandu towards east. Bhaktapur durbar square carries history of the Malla kingdom. As the monuments found in the Bhaktapur Durbar Square are mostly related to Malla king Bhupatindra Malla and his son Ranjit Malla. The majors attraction are 55 window palace, vatsala temple, Satute of King Bhupatindra Malla, Nyatapole Temple, Bhairava nath Temple, Golden gate, Lions Gate and etc.

The Golden Gate (Sun Dhoka)

The Golden gate is entrance of 55 windows Royal Palace. It is most beautiful and richly moulded specimen of its kind in the entire world.  Ranjit Malla ( Malla King) built Golden gate in the year 1753. It was built after his successfully conquered Dudhkoshi and Tolkha. It is main attraction of Bhaktapur durbar square because of its immense religious, archeological, historical and architectural value.

The Palace of Fifty Five Windows

The palace of fifty five windows (Nge Nyapa Jhya Laaykoo) was built during reign o of King Yakshay Malla in AD 1427. Also it was rebuilt or remodeled again by King Malla Bhupatindra Malla who ruled from 1696 to 1722 AD. It was still not complete until 1754 AD during the reign of his son Ranjit Malla. Mostly attractive is a balcony with Fifty-five Windows which is famous between visitors. Therefore, it is consider as a unique masterpiece of woodcarving because its gracious setting with brick walls and  sculptural design.

The Art Gallery

The Art Gallery was establish to preserve traditional paintings of Nepal and . These painting belonging to the Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Also some stone inscriptions date back to 1468 A.D.  therIt represent the early medieval period to medieval stone art of Nepal.

The Statue of King Bhupatindra Mallae

This statue of King Bhupendra Malla in the act of worship is one of attractions. It is located on a column facing the palace. This is consider as the most magnificent statue.

Nyatapola

In Newari language Nyatapola means five stories – the symbolic of five basic elements. It is biggest and highest pagoda of Nepal. This is the most famous pagoda of Nepal because it built with architectural  perfection and artistic beauty. Bhupatendra Malla built it in 1702 A.D. This temple was dedicate to Siddhilaxmi and guards. We can see in five layers of the base of temple guarded by statues .

Vatsala Temple

It is stone temple dedicate to  to goddess Vatsala devi. Therefore it included many carvings.
