Introduction

Patan Durbar Square is situated in center of lalitpur. It is center of Hinduism and buddism with 136 bahals or courtyards and 55 major temples. It is also known as artistic heritage. The city is surrounded by 4Stupas as 4 corners of Patan, one at each corner of its cardinal points. These stupas are said to have been built by the famous Emperor Ashoka. It is also oldest Buddhist town. The major attraction are patan museum, Krishna mandir, Bhimsen mandir, Vishwanath Temple, Taleju Bhawani Temple and etc. It is also one of the durbar square which is enlisted in world hertiage.

Although the Malla Kings of Lalitpur are credited with the establishment of the royal square. Also it is known that the site is an ancient crossroad.

Things to visit

First of all, it is place of history where we can see great monuments, temples, Art gallery and many of more. Here are some  of the attraction and important things to see.

  • Krishna Mandir

The temple was built in 1637 by King Siddhi Narsingh Malla. It is built in  Shikhara style. It is also one of attractive things in Patan durbar square. As we can see stone carving in the pillars in the first and second floor. This carving are unique and finest. Also the first floor carving narrate Mahabharata and second floor visuals carving of Ramayana.

  • Bhimsen Temple

It  was built by Srinivasa Malla in 1680. It is popular for three interconnected golden windows.

  • Patan Museum

Patan Museum was served by the palace of King Siddhi Narsingh Malla in the 17th century. This museum displays one of the finest art back from 17th century. This museum exhibits cover a long span Nepali culture history. It conserve scared and rare object.

  • Golden Temple (Kwa Bahal)

It is most unique temple in north of Patan Durbar Sq. It was founded in 12 century. This temple relate to Buddhist religion. As it was named after its metal that covers frontage. It one of most beautiful in Patan Durbar Square.

  • Vishwanath Temple

Vishwanath temple is built during the reign of Siddhi Narsingh Malla. It is devoted to God Shiva. The support of roofs are decorated with finest carving. Temple is guarded by two stoned elephants.

  • Layout of the palace

There are three main courtyards in the palace are Mul Chok, Sundari Chok and Keshav Narayan Chok. Different temples, monuments and etc stands around these coutrywards. Here are the three main courtyards

  1. Keshav Narayan Chowk
  2. Mul Chok
  3.  Sundari chowk

How to reach there?

Patan durbar lies in center of lalitpur. It is only 6.5 km far from Thamel. It is easy to reach because it is not far from thamel. You can have any vehicle to reach there it is also not to mus expansive.

Major highlights of Patan durbar square are the courtyard, temples, monument, Finest and unique sculpture. Also it is considered one of the old Buddhist town.
