Holi festival in Nepal falls in spring season. The festival of color Holi is well known as Fagu Purnima in Nepal. The festival falls in the full moon day in the month of Falgun according to the Nepali calendar.

Importance of Holi Festival

Holi festival is a traditional Hindu festival, which falls on of March. Generally, this festival is celebrate in the beginning of spring season. It is widely known as the Festival of Colors, joy, love and affection between the friends, relative, and family members. This festival take place over two days. Nowadays, People celebrates holi all around the world, mostly it is popular to celebrate in the different parts of India and Nepal. Holi festival is one of the most important tradition Hindu festival which remains the colorful scenery of the day.

Religious Importance

In the concept of Hindu celebrations, Holy Festival is a celebrated in the name of epic narration. Firstly this festival is celebrated in the burning of the devil Holika, but it also draws on the legend of Radha and Krishna. They both (Radha and Krishna) are the lover, but a reason Radha have separate skin-color. So, for getting her lover (Radha) according to the advice of his mother, he went and playfully painted her face so it was the same color as his. It is said that these lovers are the main reason to celebrate Holi in the tradition, by coloring their faces the same color are uses during this celebrations.

How holi Festival is celebrate?

Holi festival in Nepal is celebrated for two days. Hilly region including Kathmandu celebrates the festival in the first day and in Terai region, holi festival is celebrated in second day.

The holi festival day is the most joyful and colorful day where all the people gather together with different colors and carry holy’s material like (balloon, plastic, water, etc). Holy is a tradition performance with joy and happy moment .People make their face and clothes with desirable design related for the holy performance. Mostly people are present with a colorful face. They perform the holy activities by spreading different colors to the people, water balloon, water plastic etc with joy and happily .They also perform different entertainment activities by singing, dancing, showing different magical show etc. Most of the Nepalese Hindu people participated to celebrate this holi festival.

Nowadays, Holi Festival is popular all over the world. People from Nepal who lives in foreign country also celebrate this holy festival which helps to protect our culture and tradition. Indian and Nepalese people celebrates the holi festival where they are living. In America, United Kingdom, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan and many other countries are the popular countries to celebrate holi festival outside from Nepal and India.

Nowadays many foreigners also participate in this festival. Visitor who come to Nepal for adventure trekking in the Himalayas or tours in Nepal, they also participate in the holi festival.
