Patan

Patan is the third largest cities in Nepal. It is situate across the Bagmati of Kathmandu. This place is known as Lalitpur. Both the words are derive from Sanskrit Language “Lalitapattan”. Patan is a tourist place which is growing over nowadays. This city is comprised of 22 municipal wards which is locate in Lalitpur. Patan population is about twenty lakhs. The official name of the city ‘Lalitpur’ is “City of Beauty”. This city is seen as a traditional centre of Handicrafts. It is a great place to purchase jewellery, Buddha statues, etc.

Geography and Climate

The city of Patan is believed to have been built in 3rd century BC by Kirat dynasty. Later, it was expanded by Lichhavi king in 6th century AD. After campaigning to unify Nepal in 1768, by Prithivi Narayan Shah Patan became a city.

It is just far away from Kathmandu Valley.

Patan has a mild climate tan others simulating with Kathmandu valley. From June to September the temperature ranges from 16-25 degree Celsius. The temperature seems great. Even rainfall appears of 100 m. The spring and autumn has best temperature. In this time temperature ranges from 7-23 degree Celsius. There are few rains during these seasons. Winter becomes cold that temperature falls to 2 degree Celsius from 18 degree Celsius. No rain fall are seen in these seasons.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Patan is in winter (September, October, November, December, January and February). The weather becomes pleasant enough to explore the ancient town and cultural heritage. December is the time when the festival of this square is held.

Golden Temple

Golden Temple is Buddhist Temple situate in this city. It was found in 12th century. Golden Temple is known as ‘kwa Bahal’. It has existed since 1409. This temple is just unique Buddhist monastery. It is located in North of durbar square.

Durbar Square

This is an ancient royal palace of this city. It is face on to magnificent Durbar square. Durbar Square has mass of temples with the Newari architectures. The temple was construct in 14th to 18th century during Malla period. Somehow, it is all affected by earthquake of 2015.
