Helambu is a region in highland villages. This region is the home of Hyolmo people. Helambu is the word derived from the word Hyolmo. Hyolmo is combined from two words like ‘hyol’ means a place or a certain area ‘ma’ means goddess. This village is a place of Sherpa peoples’. This region is 80 km away from Kathmandu. It is situated in northeast of Kathmandu. Helambu trek is one of the adventurous treks though it is not popular as other. But it is adventurous. It gives beautiful view of adventurous mountains.

Geography and Climate

Helambu trek is one of the shortest treks. It provides the combination of noble culture of Sherpa and nature. Helambu region is famous for sweet apples. The Helambu region begins with Lauribina La pass and ends within Melamchi valley. It is a region of Buddhist monasteries and Buddhist pilgrimages. This is good trekking place to people who doesn’t have much time to spend in travelling. It is a short travel trek. The trek is actually for 8 days but it can be complete in 5-6 days.

There are four main seasons in this region. They are: summer, winter, spring and monsoon. The best season to trek over Helambu is spring. The rhododendrons bloom over the hill and weather becomes clear at spring. January is the coldest month in this region.

How to Reach?

The distance between Kathmandu and Helambu is about 72 km. There are route of local buses. You can hire private bus/jeep/car. The trek begind from Sindupalchowk.

Places of interest

Langtang National Park:

It is the first Himalaya National park of Nepal. This national park is establish in 1976. It covers an area of 660 mi2. This place is naturally protect areas. The place is protect in order to protect rare animals and plants.

Baden Powell Peak

Baden Powell peak is known as Ukrema peak. It lies in Himalaya part of Nepal. This peak lies in elevation of 5825 m. This peak is as natural beauty and beautiful scenery.
