The word Ilam is derived from Limbu language. It I composed of two words ‘li’ means twisted and ‘lam’ means road. Ilam is a district out of 77 districts. It is one of the 14 districts of Kirat in eastern Nepal. This region was an independent Limbu kingdom till 1869 BS. It covers an area of 1703 square km. There was a population of 290,254 according to Nepal census 2011. Illam also has a religious importance. Today, Ilam has been most developed places among all. It has its own pilgrimage and shrines value. Ilam is mainly famous for tea production. It is located in Province no.3.

Temperature ranges to 22.5 degree celsius in warmest month. January is the coldest month. The lowest temperature in this region is 12.3 degree celsius. The average temperature varies by 10.1 degree celsius.

The distance between Kathmandu and Ilam is 3755km. It takes around 75hours to drive from Kathmandu to Ilam. You also can prefer flight. Daily flight is accessible to Ilam from the airport. It takes around 19 hour 12 min to reach from plane. Air way transport is the easiest and fastest way to travel Illam.

Ilam View Tower
It’s a point constructed in order to view the whole Ilam Bazaar. The place is full of natural beauty and scenery. It opens in 6 a.m. and remains close after 5 p.m. You have to struggle few to reach the tower. One who can’t walk over the staircases can hire a taxi from Ilam Bazaar. It costs Rs. 30 for domestic and Rs. 100 for Tourists. The area is full of Gardens, Beautiful flowers and creatures and scenery. You can click photo here and make a memory. Culture
The main group living here are chetris and Brahmins. Lepcha are the ethnic group of people living here. They celebrate each festival from starting of year New Year, Dashain, Tihar to ending chaitey Dashain. They practice folk songs and folk dances on their own.
